 Course Description  

Introduction to basic computer skills for the novice computer user. Through a hands-on approach, understand common computer terms, develop navigation skills with the keyboard and mouse, manage electronic files, send and receive e-mail, locate information on the World Wide Web, and explore e-learning tools. Provides a foundation for other computer classes requiring these skills.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Define common computer terms.
  2. Use a mouse and keyboard to navigate on a computer.
  3. Open and use basic application software (notepad, WordPad, Paint, etc.)
  4. Save files to and retrieve files from storage devices.
  5. Create folders to manage the storage of electronic files.
  6. Move and copy electronic files from one location to another.
  7. Create back-up copies of electronic files.
  8. Set up an e-mail account (for those who don't already have one).
  9. Send, receive, and manage electronic communications.
  10. Send e-mail messages with attachments.
  11. Use Web Browser software to locate information on the World Wide Web.
  12. Use popular search engines to conduct Internet searches.
  13. Use e-learning tools available through a course management system such as Moodle.
