After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of major developments in U.S. history.
  2. Understand and analyze the structure and powers of government at the national level.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of key ideals and principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; the U.S. Constitution, including the rule of law, separation of powers, representative government, and popular sovereignty; and the Bill of Rights, including due process and freedom of expression.
  4. Evaluate the impact of various forms of government on people in the past or present.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the struggle for civil rights and justice in U.S. history.
