 Course Description  

Introduction to basic computer skills for CCB or High School Completion students who are novice computer users. Through a hands-on approach, understand common computer terms, develop navigation skills with the keyboard and mouse, manage electronic files, send and receive e-mail, locate information on the World Wide Web, and explore e-learning tools. Basic reading and writing will be taught in the context of using a personal computer.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Define common computer terms.
  2. Use a mouse and keyboard to navigate on a computer.
  3. Open and use basic application software (notepad, WordPad, Paint, etc.).
  4. Save files to and retrieve files from storage devices.
  5. Manage electronic files by creating folders to manage the storage of electronic files; move and copy electronic files from one location to another; and create back-up copies of electronic files.
  6. Send, receive, and manage electronic communications including set up o an e-mail account and sending e-mail messages with attachments.
  7. Access information on the internet using web browser software to locate information on the World Wide Web and using popular search engines to conduct Internet searches.
  8. Use e-learning tools available through a course management system.
  9. Improve reading and writing skills as they relate to the use of personal computer.
