 Course Description  

ELA students with clearly defined academic goals will continue to refine academic English though the performance of routine tasks as well as the extension and application of their academic skills.

Course Contents

  1. Read and demonstrate understanding of a book (80-120 pages) to be read outside of class.
  2. Read/write reports on newspaper and magazine articles.
  3. Read short stories and other writings and answer questions about content and about students' opinions and feelings.
  4. Write paragraphs in and out of class with adequate and specific content.
  5. Correct and revise writing using a corrections key.
  6. Read and understand the main ideas of more difficult passages using context clues to guess the meaning of new vocabulary.
  7. Make personal connections with readings and explain them.
  8. Demonstrate increasing control of grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling skills.
