 Course Description  

Introduction to shop safety and basic industrial skills required for employment in the automotive or other trade industries. Discussion of shop safety concerns and safe practices including OSHA 10 certification. Introduction to basic shop practices including safe use of shop equipment, proper use of hand and power tools, equipment maintenance, hardware identification, and basic vehicle inspection and maintenance.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of safe practices while working in an industrial lab by correctly identifying safe and unsafe examples.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of basic lab equipment maintenance by correctly performing maintenance and service on a variety of lab equipment.
  3. Demonstrate safe use of power and hand tools.
  4. Demonstrate ability to correctly identify and measure metric and standard hardware.
  5. Demonstrate ability to perform a basic vehicle safety inspection.
  6. Demonstrate understanding of basic vehicle maintenance by correctly performing on-vehicle services.
  7. Demonstrate working knowledge of online service tools by efficiently navigating systems to locate diagnostic and repair information.
