Course Contents

  1. Read and demonstrate understanding of a book (80-120 pages) to be read outside of class;
  2. Read/write reports on newspaper and magazine articles;
  3. Read short stories and other writings and answer questions about content and about students' opinions and feelings;
  4. Write paragraphs in and out of class with adequate and specific content;
  5. Correct and revise writing using a corrections key;
  6. Read and understand the main ideas of more difficult passages using context clues to guess the meaning of new vocabulary;
  7. Make personal connections with readings and explain them;
  8. Demonstrate increasing control of grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling skills.
