Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe early traditional fire prevention efforts.
  2. Describe how historical events affected code development and/or enforcement.
  3. Identify fire prevention agencies/organizations and describe the type of services each provides.
  4. Explain the jurisdictional responsibility of federal, state and local governments and other organizations involving life safety or fire protection.
  5. Identify sources of statistical information regarding the fire problem and describe how that information is gathered and can be used to promote fire prevention.
  6. Describe state fire reporting procedures, including loss estimates and the importance of life and property loss statistical data.
  7. Describe the responsibilities of a fire prevention bureau.
  8. Explain how various public education programs impact fire prevention.
  9. Identify target groups for public education programs and describe a type of program appropriate for each.
  10. Explain the scope/intent of various codes, rules and standards that impact fire protection.
  11. Explain the requirements of and purpose for fire cause determination and fire investigation.
