Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand the development of composition and technique in drawing.
  2. Create both formal and informal compositions in their drawings.
  3. Employ a variety of drawing materials to achieve communication goals.
  4. Critically analyze their drawings using the vocabulary of the discipline.

Course Contents

  1. Using lecture, video, guest lecture and gallery and/or museum visits, students will examine a variety of approaches to drawing and composition.
  2. Using group and studio exercises students will demonstrate skills in creating both formal and informal compositions.
  3. Using group and studio exercises students will demonstrate technical skills with but not limited to charcoal, pastel, oil sticks, watercolor and ink.
  4. Using notebooks, self assessments and/or formal critiques, students will analyze their work using using the vocabulary of the discipline.
