Learning Outcomes

Course Contents

  1. Using lectures, texts, artist's autobiographies, videos, guest lectures and gallery and/or museum visits students will be introduced to art as an integral part of individual experience and to the relationship between individual experience, culture, artists and institutions.
  2. Using writing assignments and group work students will identify and distinguish the difference between the integral components of art, form and content.
  3. Using group and/or individual projects or essays students will demonstrate their ability to analyze art using the vocabulary of the discipline.
  4. Projects will deepen student understanding of the way history and society influence the expression of human differences. Group work or formal group presentations allow students to share their ideas and engage in supportive dialogue. Group, individual and faculty assessment will enable the student to see how their ideas are received using both academic and peer evaluation.
