 Course Description  

A continuation of MUSC& 141, but including a systematic study of chords and harmony. Continued development of aural skills through an emphasis on sight singing and dictation. Continued development of piano skills. Required for Music Majors.

Prerequisite: MUSC& 141 with a "C" or higher.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Write all major and minor scales, primary chords in all positions, write longer and more graceful melodies in several harmonized parts. Analyze harmonically and formally, vocal and piano music.
  2. Hear melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic elements of music accurately at an intermediate level. Sol feggio applications to basic melodies and songs. Commit to notation musical dictation at an intermediate level.
  3. Increase proficiency in piano skills.
