A continuation of MUSC& 142 , this class will cover non-chord tones and diatonic 7th chords, using these skills to harmonize melodies. Required for Music Majors.

Prerequisite: MUSC& 142 with grade of C or higher, or instructor permission.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Write a piece of music for voice and/or instrument(s) notating it correctly, using conventional harmonization. Analyze music so as to extract the most of the composer's intent of the meaning of the music.
  2. Identify at an advanced level, melodic rhythmic and harmonic elements of music and commit to notation.
  3. Sight-read music at an advanced rate of speed with a high degree of accuracy
  4. Students will also research and identify performance proficiency standards at two 4-year universities or music conservatories.
