 Course Description  

This course is designed for those with limited or no keyboard background and includes basic notation, rhythm skills, technique, and sight reading. Each class includes group and individual instruction in ensemble playing and repertoire materials. Music majors with little to no piano experience are required to take this course along with MUSC& 141.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Read and play music at an early intermediate level of difficulty.
  2. Harmonize simple melodies with I and V7 chords.
  3. Read music including scales, notes, rhythm, meter and harmony.
  4. Transpose simple melodies.
  5. Research and identify performance proficiency standards at two 4-year universities or music conservatories.
