 Course Description  

Operation, diagnosis & repair of automotive brake systems including disc & drum brakes, hydraulic systems, anti-lock systems and computer controls. Perform diagnosis, service and repair on a variety of vehicles.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite or concurrent enrollment: AT 101 or 107, AT 131, 133, and ENGL& 101.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand safety hazards related to brake systems.
  2. Determine appropriate brake service by following a systematic diagnostic procedure.
  3. Perform on-vehicle diagnosis and repair of disc and drum brake systems.
  4. Repair brake systems to manufacturer's specifications.
  5. Machine brake drums and rotors using bench-mounted and on-car brake lathes.
  6. Determine serviceable condition of calipers, master cylinders, and wheel cylinders.
  7. Demonstrate proper bleeding and adjustment of brake systems, including parking brake.
  8. Diagnose, pack, and replace wheel bearings and seals.
  9. Diagnose and repair A.B.S. braking systems.
  10. Access and properly utilize electronic service information.
  11. Demonstrate understanding of theory and operation of drum brake systems, disc brake systems, hydraulics, anti-lock brakes, power assist, and parking brakes.
