 Course Description  

Introduction to concepts and basic care of selected individuals throughout the lifespan experiencing basic alterations in renal and urinary function, male and female reproduction, and integumentary function. Adaptations with normal pregnancy, childbirth, the newborn to adolescent are examined as well as common alterations. The nursing process serves as the organizing framework for the study and delivery of nursing care. In addition, principles of pharmacology, nutrition and psychological issues will be integrated throughout.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: NURS 181 and NURS 182 with "B-" or higher and concurrent enrollment in SOC 191.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Advocate for patients and families by demonstrating competence/competent communication to facility and staff (regarding) towards patient's progress and outcomes while caring for the client from infant to adult.
2. Uses verbal and non-verbal communication that demonstrates respect, understanding and caring for the individual client throughout the lifespan and all members of the health care team.
3. Demonstrate nursing behaviors that assist individual client�s holistic health care needs that may also include those related to cultural and diversity needs.
4. Prepare evidence based nursing practice with critical thinking nursing activities to promote meeting the patients individual needs when faced with integumentary disorders.
5. Demonstrate collaboration with health team members, faculty and peers to maintain positive working relationships in all educational and clinical settings.
6. Promote the health of patients, families and communities by providing utilization of an interactive process with the exchange of information that involves each member of the health care team in the plan of care with renal and urinary alterations.
7. Discuss non-nursing behaviors and attitudes based on legal and ethical principles that reflect those selected nursing interventions chosen to achieve the promotion of client�s dignity and privacy in the childbearing family.
8. Prepare individualized care for the childbearing family that demonstrates organization and time management in a safe caring environment.
9. Illustrate the ability to share health information that results in changed or improved behaviors for the childbearing family during admission and upon discharge teaching.
10. Use a plan of care based on the analysis of pertinent data and use of clinical reasoning of assigned patients with alterations in male and female reproduction in the clinical setting.
11. Identify safety issues in implementation of patient care in pediatric and adult patients within the context of the family.
12. Distinguish the information provided by documentation, verbal communication and collaboration with all health team members to establish patient centered outcomes and a plan of care.
13. Examine the patient's care plan based on assessment data to evaluate effectiveness of the current nursing care alterations of reproductive functioning while making appropriate modifications in order to meet that individual patient care plan.

   • Cancer of the Bladder and Kidney. Vascular Alterations of the Kidney.
4. Family Health, Female and Male Reproduction and Sexually transmitted diseases.
   • Fundamental care of the Male client with Reproductive Alterations. Fundamental care of the Female client with Reproductive Alterations.
   • Fundamental care of the Female client with Breast Alterations. Fundamental care of the client with Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
5. Fundamental Alterations of the client with Integumentary Alterations.
