After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the biology of North American fish and their classification.
  2. List respiration, circulation, and pressure influences on fish physiology.
  3. Identify juvenile salmonids.
  4. Describe the evolutionary development and progression of the major fish groups.
  5. Apply the principles of Taxonomic Ranking to primary fish groups.
  6. Explain the fundamental role of Natural Selection in the Evolution of species.
  7. Describe the role of speciation in the development/emergence of the great biodiversity of fish species.
  8. Describe the influences of historic fish distribution and habitat on fish evolution and diversification.
  9. Construct Cladograms depicting the Phylogenetic relationships among different fish groups.
  10. Describe the evolutionary progression of the first emergent fish groups to modern day extant fish groups.
