 Course Description  

Introduction to the fundamentals of blueprint reading emphasizing industrial drawings commonly used in manufacturing. Review symbol conventions and visualization of solid objects from orthographic and isometric projections, the interpretation of technical drawings, and the skills required in print reading applying basic ASME standard techniques, as a form of communication. Students read, interpret and sketch drawings.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Describe why drawings are important in the manufacturing industry and the components that make up a set of drawings.
2. Depict the application of technical documents/information in a manufacturing workplace (specifications, work plans, safety information, etc.)
3. Demonstrate the ability to use basic and precision measurement tools and procedures to create drawings that show a familiarity with drawing/drafting terminology, symbology, abbreviations, map scales, and dimensioning.
4. Identify the difference between pictorial and orthographic drawings and visualize solid objects from orthographic and isometric projections.
5. Communicate drawing specifications: why they are needed, what is contained in them, and how to find specific information.
