 Course Description  

Basic inert gas welding theory of operation and safety requirements. Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) processes and electrode selection based on the AWS electrode classification system. Includes an introduction to hands-on welding techniques in the shop setting.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: WT 111, WT 114, and WT 211 with a "D" or higher.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Understand the theories of operation and the equipment used in the inert gas welding processes.
2. Demonstrate correct use of gas welding equipment, and safety practices.
3. Understand the aluminum welding theory.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the AWS electrode classification system.
5. Demonstrate correct shop procedures (safety, housekeeping, equipment).
6. Demonstrate manual techniques for making welds using inert gas processes.
7. Demonstrate use of proper welding-related terminology as applied to gas welding processes.
