Practical course in mathematics involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percentages, and basic geometric constructions. Introduction to applied algebra and basic trigonometric functions. Includes practical blueprint reading.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Perform standard mathematic operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
2. Solve practical problems involving ratios, proprotions, and percentages in the marine trades.
3. Utilize basic trigonometric functions to solve practical problems in the marine trades.
4. Calculate areas, volumes, and forces in both English and Metric systems.

1. Number systems, i.e. natural, whole, and rational numbers.
2. Basic mathematic operations, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
3. Ratios, proportions, and percentages.
4. Measurement, i.e. linear, areas, and volumes.
5. The metric system basics.
6. Right angle trigonometry, i.e. sine function, cosine function, and tangent function.
