 Course Description  

Introduction to devices and circuits used in industrial applications: sensors and transducers, control circuits, electronic signals, thyristor devices, transformers, motors and motor control. Covers basic digital theory and measurement techniques used in computer controlled industrial systems to monitor flow, temperature, proximity, pressure, level and toxic gas. Introduction to processors and programming used in common industrial applications.

Prerequisite: MANF 145 with a "C-" or higher.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify sensors/transducers suitable for use in measurement of a given physical property.
2. Identify analog and/or digital interface requirements for a given transducer to its host system.
3. Interface transformers and motors to demonstrate filter and motor drive application.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of basic digital theory and how it is applied to systems used in industrial applications.
5. Program logic circuits and processors to perform basic system interface functions.
