 Course Description  

A comprehensive introduction to the management of human resources in profit and non-profit organizations, including job analysis, workforce planning, employee recruitment, selection, training and development, compensation, benefits, discipline/termination and performance appraisal, as well as human resources law, human resources information systems, employee health and safety, and labor relations.

3. The basic laws and regulations affecting the employer/employee relationship.
4. The options, legal ramifications and effectiveness of various job analysis, recruiting, selection and orientation programs.
5. The importance and uses of job descriptions, employee contracts, labor agreements, handbooks, policies and procedures and related documents.
6. The types and appropriate uses of various performance appraisal systems.
7. Various techniques for handling common employee disciplinary and termination issues and the legal ramifications of each.
8. The types and appropriate uses of various performance appraisal systems.
9. The basic types of statutory, welfare and pension benefits plans typically offered to employees.
10. The basic types of monetary and non-monetary compensation systems.
11. The role of unions and their impact on the management/employee relationship.
12. Employee health and safety requirements.
13. Basic leadership, management, communication and team building styles and the effectiveness of each.
