 Course Description  

Develop professionalism and productivity in a work place environment. Troubleshoot, analyze, and perform diagnosis and repair on a variety of automotive systems and vehicles. Emphasis will be placed on industry standards, communication, flat-rate production, and customer satisfaction.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisites: AT 133 with a D grade or higher; and concurrent enrollment in AT 199 and MANF 121 and WT 231.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate understanding of all major vehicle systems service hazards and safety by conducting safe practices while working in the lab.
2. Demonstrate ability to diagnose a variety of vehicle systems with a variety of problems by performing live-vehicle diagnosis.
3. Demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal instructor assistance by performing inspection, diagnosis, parts requests, repairs and repair verification on live vehicles while working independently.
4. Demonstrate ability to complete a professional level work order by writing complete and detailed descriptions of diagnostic and repair work.
5. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with shop management and service personnel by explaining diagnostic and repair processes and submitting accurate and complete parts requisitions.
6. Demonstrate ability to meet or exceed flat-rate time by tracking hours on vehicle diagnostic and repair jobs and comparing to printed flat-rate times.

2. Perform repairs and/or maintenance on engine fuel and emissions systems.
3. Perform repairs and/or maintenance on automatic and manual transmissions, including clutches and differentials.
4. Perform repairs and/or maintenance on electrical systems, including charging, starting, battery, lighting and other electrical systems.
5. Perform repairs and/or maintenance on engine ignition and computer controlled systems.
6. Perform repairs and/or maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines.
7. Perform repairs and/or maintenance on vehicle heating and air conditioning systems.
8. Writing detailed service reports.
9. Maximizing flat-rate time.
10. Customer service and employer/employee roles.
