 Course Description  

Describes the characteristics of confined space and the types of atmospheric hazards along with the ways confined spaces can be ventilated. Includes the time requirements for proper ventilation and the procedures for monitoring air quality. Safety precautions, practices and protective equipment are all described as are the procedures for using them. Advantages and disadvantages are presented of various types of Personnel Protective Equipment. The importance of effective communications equipment is emphasized.

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. List the characteristics that define a confined space. Define the three main types of atmospheric hazards associated with confined spaces.
2. Explain the importance of air monitoring in a confined space. Explain the need for ventilation in a confined space.
3. Define the roles of the affected employee and the authorized employee.
4. Identify the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and communications equipment for various confined space situations.
5. Identify the essential items of rescue equipment and describe their uses. Describe the rescue and emergency service requirements for a permit space entry.
