 Course Description  

Emphasizes safety on the worksite. Introduction to basic hand & power tool usage, maintenance and safety, and many of the basic skills and knowledge necessary for success in today�s industry. Expectations, challenges, and opportunities encountered by today�s carpenter are discussed. Introduction and development of efficient work habits and positive character traits for the workplace are also emphasized.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify and describe the roles and responsibilities of a carpenter apprentice.
2. Investigate the past, present and future of the carpentry trade, union and open-shop carpentry, and the construction industry, in general.
3. Understand and identify the correct safety practices & procedures for working in the shop or on a construction site.
4. Demonstrate the ability to follow all safety protocols when using hand & power tools in the shop or on the jobsite.
