 Course Description  

Become familiar with the tools and materials, and practices and procedures for the fabrication and installation of basic cabinets and countertops. Carpentry finish work includes shelving and paneling in addition to interior standing and running trim.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Properly use the following tools and equipment in a safe and productive manner
   • a. Table saw. b. Miter saw. c. Band saw. d. Jointer.
   • e. Router. f. Sanding machines. g. Thickness planer. h. Portable planer.
   • i. Plate joiner. j. Dowel jigs. k. Pocket screws. l. Other hand-held tools.
2. Identify the components of a basic cabinet. Assemble and install upper and lower cabinet units and counter-tops to industry-based standards.
3. Install and adjust various drawer guides, door hardware, and shelving associated with cabinet installation.
4. Install interior standing and running trim. Cut, fit, and install plastic laminates.
5. Cut, fit and install both adjustable and permanent shelves. Become familiar with the techniques involved in wall panel installation.
