 Course Description  

Increases the awareness and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a construction carpenter foreman/supervisor. Assists the student with the transition to journeyman status and focuses on the expectations and requirements of a construction foreman/supervisor.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Increase the awareness and development of the student�s professional and personal skills and characteristics. Contractors are looking for people with specific attitudes and skill sets to move into leadership positions. What are those traits? Is the student foreman/supervisor material? What are the things the student can do TODAY to improve his/her potential as a leadership candidate?
2. Understand and implement the duties and responsibilities that a foreman/supervisor does on a construction job. Whether by choice or because the situation demands it, the student doesn�t have to experience his/her first time in the role of foreman/supervisor unprepared. What does a foreman/supervisor do? What will be expected by both management and the other members of the construction team? What makes a good foreman/supervisor successful?
3. Assume the role of a journeyman again which requires taking orders from someone else. One of the hardest adjustments a foreman/supervisor has to make is assuming a role of journeyman again and taking orders from someone else. In order to maintain a productive, efficient team the student will have to be able to re-focus on his/her new role. This portion of the course will give some much-needed insight and helpful tips in avoiding some of the pitfalls of �putting your tools back on.�
