 Course Description  

Introduction to the five basic Weld Joint Designs. Focuses on selecting the most appropriate joint design for a welding job. Also focuses on recognizing, reading and understanding Welding Symbols which let the welder know exactly what is needed.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: WT 111, WT 114, and WT 211 with a "D" or higher.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Understand the basics of joint design. List the five major types of joints.
2. List seven types of weld grooves. Identify welding symbols.
3. List the elements of welding symbols. Explain the meaning of welding symbols.
4. Explain the parts of a groove preparation. Describe how nondestructive test symbols are used.

5. Basics of weld symbols. Symbols for location, size, length and sequencing of welds.
6. Symbols for fillet, plug and slot, spot, seam and projection, groove and surfacing welds.
7. NDT symbols.
