 Course Description  

Provides the fundamental and technical knowledge needed to coordinate and deliver existing fire safety educational programs and information. Assists the student in meeting job performance requirements of NFPA 1035, Professional Qualifications for Fire & Life Safety Educator, for Fire & Life Safety Educator 1 and prepares the student for Washington State certification testing for Public Fire & Life Safety Educator.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Communicate orally and in writing, manage time, multitask.
2. Document public fire and life safety educational activities.
3. Identify community resources, services, and organizations.
4. Identify partners to address current fire and life safety issues.
5. Select instructional materials so that the materials are specific to the audience and objectives.
6. Present and adapt a lesson, given a lesson plan with multiple presentation methods, evaluation instruments, time allotment, setting, and identified audience, so that the lesson plan is followed, the objectives are met, and the needs of the audience are satisfied.
7. Administer an evaluation instrument so that lesson outcomes are measured.
8. PROGRAM OUTCOME: Students will possess a knowledge and skill set that allows them to be effective in preventing hostile fire emergencies occurring in their community.
