 Course Description  

A course for English Language Acquisition students with an emphasis on developing speaking fluency, listening, and pronunciation skills. Use correct word stress in sentences. Demonstrate ability to comprehend, pronounce, and define academically appropriate vocabulary. Pronounce syllables and vowel reduction. Develop vowel, consonant, and consonant blends pronunciation.

Prerequisite: Placement into ELA 11, 12, or 13

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate ability to pronounce and distinguish basic vowel and consonant sounds, basic syllables, word stress, word endings, and reductions.
  2. Appropriately ask questions including clarification and request for repetition of specific content.
  3. Follow agreed upon rules while interacting in small and whole group discussions including not interrupting person who is talking.
  4. Determine main idea of text read aloud.
  5. Ask and answer questions of speaker, offering appropriate elaboration and details.
