A course for English Language Acquisition students with an emphasis on developing speaking fluency, listening, and pronunciation skills contextualized with ELA 18 College Transition course content.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: Receive a "P" grade in ELA 015/ESOL 053 (or placement into ELA 018 or ELA 095) with concurrent enrollment in ELA 018 and ELA 045

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Actively engage in structured listening and speaking activities contextualized with ELA 18 course content including pair, small group, and whole class exercises.
  2. Demonstrate listening comprehension by identifying main ideas and providing evidence for choice.
  3. Demonstrate listening techniques by building on and referring to the comments others have made.
  4. Exhibit listening behaviors which include not interrupting, making eye contact, and avoiding personal cell phone use during discussion.
  5. Change volume of voice appropriately depending on context, e.g. personal interactions with classmates v. speaking to whole group.
