 Course Description  

Introduction to industrial materials most often found in manufacturing operations. Develop an understanding of how the structure and properties of materials for industrial uses influence material selection and the selection of processes used in the conversion of those materials into useful products. Apply material knowledge to the prototype and materials testing process.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisites: MANF 137, MANF 148, and ENGR& 114 all with a grade of C- or higher.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify industrial materials and how their use impacts the environment.
2. Describe the basic structure, chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of various materials that influence product selection.
3. List and describe the criteria used for matching materials to product specifications.
4. Identify the types, classifications, applications, and processing techniques of materials in industrial applications.
5. Apply the knowledge of materials and the selection of production processes in the design phase of a product.
