Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate understanding of major developments in U.S. history.
2. Analyze and evaluate key ideals and principles outlined in seminal U.S. documents of historical significance, including the Declaration of Independence, Lincoln�s Second Inaugural Address, and Martin Luther King Jr�s �Letter from Birmingham Jail.�
3. Demonstrate understanding of the ongoing struggles for civil rights and social justice throughout U.S. history.
4. Recognize and analyze dominant and marginalized narratives at work in primary and secondary sources that present multiple perspectives and interpretations of historical events.
5. Analyze causal factors that have shaped major events in U.S. history.
6. Analyze contemporary issues and events using U.S. historical events to provide context.
