 Course Description  

Overall purpose is to develop the apprentice carpenters� ability to select and use proper means and methods pertaining to the installation of hardwood flooring. Fundamentals of substrate preparation, self-leveling substrates, wood underlayment, material moisture testing and mitigation strategies, plan reading, and OSHA safety models will be covered. Three major conceptual schemes comprise the focus of this course: understanding and preparing substrates, properties and installation of hardwood, and floor repair with single board replacement.

  3. Demonstrate the safe use of tools and equipment specific to the work.
  4. Describe the necessary conditions and installation sequence for installing hardwood floors.
  5. Demonstrate techniques of preparing substrates and installing hardwood floors.
  6. Correctly prepare substrates, including moisture mitigation, to receive hardwood material.
  7. Use layout skills to locate placement of balanced straight, diagonal, and herringbone (also centered and balanced) hardwood floors.
