 Course Description

Falls from heights are a fatal hazard on construction sites. Amendments to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM-385-1-1) changed fall protection requirements to address this hazard. This course includes these changes to help carpenters select and use proper means and methods of fall protection on a construction site, specifically those requiring the use of personal fall arrest systems, work platforms, and access openings. Fundamentals of working at heights, controlling hazards, passive fall protection, and administrative controls, will be covered. Three major conceptual schemes comprise the focus of this course: planning and using fall protection systems, managing jobsite variables, and addressing code compliance.
