Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Promptly recognize and respond to life threatening emergencies.
  2. Demonstrate appropriate ventilations.
    • Rescue breaths.
    • Bag valve masks.
    • Airway obstruction.
  3. Demonstrate high quality CPR for adults, children, and infants with one rescuer or two rescuers.
  4. Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) during a cardiac emergency.
  5. Explain the importance of early use of an AED during a cardiac emergency.

  1. Procedures for Cardiac Arrest/heart attack.
    • High quality CPR for infants, children, and adults.
    • Effective ventilation.
  2. Effective ventilations for Breathing Emergencies.
    • Barrier device for rescue breathing.
    • Bag valve mask device.
  3. Relief of foreign-body obstruction for adults, children, and infants.
  4. Emphasis on early use the automated external defibrillator during a cardiac emergency.
  5. American Heart Association Chain of survival- with BLS components.
  6. Team dynamics in a multi-rescuer resuscitation.
