 Course Description  

Clinical procedures required for the Medical Assisting Certified credential through the Washington State Department of Health that are outside of the scope of the MA-R credential. This is a clinical procedures course designed to bridge experienced MA-R candidates to the MA-C WA scope of practice, and obtain the AAS Medical Assistant degree.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain an electrocardiogram and its relationship to the human heart.
  2. Accurately measure and record spirometry on an adult.
  3. Accurately perform an electrocardiogram, and accurately position patients for selected examinations.
  4. Identify instruments, their use and care.
  5. Perform sterilization of equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  6. Prepare sterile trays to allow the provider or healthcare worker to perform treatments or procedures.
  7. Explain casts and casting procedures.
  8. Instruct patients according to their needs regarding preparations for tests requiring radiant energy.
  9. Monitor legislation related to medical assisting scope of practice in health care.
  10. Discuss the aspects of rehabilitative medicine.
  11. Discuss the principles of good nutrition.
  12. State the purposes of diet therapy.
  13. Discuss the principles of immunity and development of infections.
