 Course Description  

This course builds on topics from Math 97. Topics include: an introduction to polynomials and factoring; quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions and equations; complex numbers; composite and inverse functions; distance formula and circles.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: CCB 87 or ODHS 87 or MATH 97 with a grade of C or higher, or appropriate math placement score.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Factor polynomials and use factoring to solve polynomial equations.
  2. Add, subtract, multiply, divide, and simplify rational expressions.
  3. Solve rational equations and identify extraneous solutions.
  4. Add, subtract, multiply, divide, and simplify radical expressions.
  5. Solve radical equations and identify extraneous solutions.
  6. Graph radical functions and find their domain and range.
  7. Add subtract, multiply, and divide complex numbers.
  8. Graph quadratic functions and find the vertex and intercepts.
  9. Use square roots, completing the square, and the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations.
  10. Find composite and inverse functions.
  11. Graph exponential and logarithmic functions and find their domain and range.
  12. Use properties of exponents and logarithms to solve exponential and logarithmic equations
  13. Use the distance and midpoint formulas to find equations of circles and sketch their graphs.
