Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Describe how GIS can be used to investigate data and solve problems of a spatial nature.
  2. Demonstrate working knowledge with GIS terminology, query tables, and maps to investigate relationships and solve problems.
  3. Demonstrate GIS editing skills when filtering data & creating maps, bringing new data into tables & layers, changing map scale, symbols and projections, and finding features within maps.
  4. Create layout presentations that include maps, graphs, tables and legends.
  5. Demonstrate GIS resources in student's field of interest through the Internet and publications.
  6. Create and manage geodatabases.
  7. Describe basic cartographic concepts, and practice georeferencing raster images.
