 Course Description  

Introduction to the tools & techniques (including ASAM criteria) used for drug and alcohol assessments and case management. Covers treatment plan formation and the implementation of quality care as well as making appropriate referrals. Required course for students seeking the Substance Use Disorder Counseling degree (including fast track students).

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: HSERV 141 with a "C" or higher.

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  2. Employ the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) approved criteria when developing a drug use diagnosis.
  3. Employ Washington State Department of Health (DOH) approved criteria when making recommendations for treatment placement.
  4. Create culturally appropriate treatment plans, acceptable by current industry standards, and based on each client�s individual needs.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the most effective ways to work with managed care and other insurance companies on behalf of each client.
