 Course Description  

Fundamentals of electricity including series, parallel and series-parallel circuit operation; electrical measurement including voltage, amperage and resistance; diagnosis and repair of batteries, starting and charging systems, and vehicle lighting.

Prerequisites: Concurrent enrollment in AT 101 and AT 133.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate understanding of automotive electrical systems service hazards and safety by conducting safe practices while working in the lab.
2. Correctly define and explain the operation of Voltage, Amperage, and resistance.
3. Demonstrate a working knowledge of a variety of electrical circuits by tracing power flow and explaining circuit operation.
4. Demonstrate ability to properly locate and use a wiring diagram for electrical diagnosis.
5. Demonstrate understanding of electrical safety by conducting safe practices while working in the lab.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of vehicle batteries and starting systems by correctly testing and diagnosing system-related problems.
7. Demonstrate an understanding of vehicle charging systems by correctly testing and diagnosing system-related problems.
8. Demonstrate an understanding of vehicle lighting systems by correctly testing and diagnosing system-related problems.
9. Demonstrate ability to repair a variety of electrical systems correctly including batteries, starting, and charging systems by performing live-vehicle repairs.
