Descriptions, symptoms, treatments, theoretical explanations and cultural views of abnormal behavior and the psychological disorders based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Accurately describe contemporary perspectives within abnormal psychology.
2. Correctly assess psychological disorders by using diagnostic criteria.
3. Identify personal and social impacts of psychological disorders through use of current mental health statistics.
4. Analyze pros and cons of different treatment types.
5. Evaluate diagnostic criteria by discussing their relevancy and accuracy.
