Covers HIV/AIDS and includes Brief Risk Intervention (BRI) segment. Satisfies the Washington State Department of Health requirement for those applying to become Substance Use Disorder Professionals (SUDP). Required for students seeking the Substance Use Disorder Counseling degree (including fast track students).

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify risk factors for HIV/AIDS in client/patient populations.
2. Become informed of recognition and control of exposure to HIV and other pathogens.
3. Develop skills to discuss these issues with clients and to assess the complications they pose, if any, to treatment for other conditions, especially chemical dependency.
