 Course Description  

Theory and application of tooling for the composite industry using various forms of medium. In-depth study and hands-on work building both A and rigid B molds using both manual and computer aided development for plug construction.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite: CMPST 121, or concurrent enrollment, and 123 or instructor permission.

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  2. Explain and describe the process of plug and mold making.
  3. Demonstrate industry surface finishes in plug construction.
  4. Compare and evaluate forms of medium used in plug construction.
  5. Compose a cost estimate of plug, mold and part for composite production.
  6. Develop a full size plug from a scaled drawing using manual method.
  7. Develop a full size plug from a scaled drawing using a 5 axis router.
  8. Finish a plug surface with various mediums current to industry standards.
  9. Create a lay-up schedule for a mold.
  10. Design and build a structural to capture the mold.
