After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. The student will be able to understand and give basic instructions and ask basic questions.
2. The student will be able to actively participate in discussions and will begin to conduct interviews with native speakers of English.

Course Contents

1. Perform basic functions in English (banking, restaurants, shopping, transportation, etc.);
2. Initiate conversations and make small talk;
3. Understand and ask/answer questions about oral material such as taped conversations, stories, etc.;
4. Perform in short interviews with native English speakers on factual matters;
5. Respond to/give oral instructions (maps, etc.);
6. Ask increasingly complex questions in English;
7. Write dictations of appropriate length, vocabulary, grammar;
8. Write notes with important details;
9. Understand basic types of reduced speech.
10. Enhance English pronunciation and intonation skills;
11. Use increasingly varied and appropriate vocabulary.
