Application of professional skills in evaluating medical records for accuracy and completeness in the hospital health care setting. Covers assignment of correct code numbers to diagnoses and procedures for data retrieval and UB-04 claim form submission.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Become skilled in the use of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) manual.
  2. Be familiar with selected hospital care codes and modifiers.
  3. Become practiced in selecting Evaluation and Management (E/M) codes.
  4. Use research techniques to determine accurate coding of unlisted procedures.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to code procedures and diagnoses for various procedural studies.
  6. Be proficient in the use of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) manual.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to code procedures, diagnoses, and HCPCS for use on UB-04 claim forms from selected case studies.
