Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze a script from the perspective of realistic acting.
  2. Plan and execute an extended period of rehearsal.
  3. Analyze a character regardless of gender, age, or ethnicity.
  4. Analyze a written text to build a character and apply through scene work and performance.
  5. Prepare a detailed character study.

Course Contents

  1. Students will present scenes from contemporary dramatic literature that will be supported by written analysis and evaluated utilizing instructor feedback, peer review, scene partner critique and self assessment.
  2. Using critical thinking skills, students will analyze scripts and present the results of that analysis through written assignments and seminar discussions.
  3. Students will explore and analyze the techniques of realistic acting through in class exercises and projects.
