 Course Description  

Examine the characteristics of successful leaders in contemporary workplaces. Analyze how leaders develop their managerial skills and organizational acumen and how such leaders create high performing workplaces. Investigate how successful managers address the impact of bias in the workplace, their own, and that of those around them.

Prerequisite: BASAM Director permission.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Evaluate different management and leadership philosophies relevant to their organizational context by critiquing their effectiveness in student's field of interest.
  2. Evaluate the impact the factors such as decision making, organizational culture and structure, and communication have on leadership and organizational effectiveness through research in student's field of interest.
  3. Investigate the relationship between organizational dynamics and savvy and social capital theories by researching their application in student's field of interest.
  4. Assess the impact of bias on leadership and organizational effectiveness by researching its application in student's field of interest.
