Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of first aid rescuers. Describe the key steps in first aid.
2. Demonstrate the proper way to remove protective gloves.
3. Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke.
4. Demonstrate the proper use of an epinephrine pen. Demonstrate the proper use of bandages and the control of bleeding.
5. Recognize elements of common injuries and common illnesses.
6. Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury and how to contact emergency services.
7. Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers. Perform high-quality CPR for an adult, child or infant.
8. Give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups. Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult, child or infant.
