 Course Description  

Operation, diagnosis, service and repair of automotive air conditioning systems, including climate control and related electrical circuits. Includes factory repair, retrofitting, and safe handling of refrigerants and related chemicals. MACS Section 609 Certification included.

 Prerequisite  

Prerequisite or concurrent enrollment: AT 101 or 107, AT 133, AT 220 or 225 and MANF 121.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand safety and the hazards associated with air conditioning systems. Identify the different types of automotive air conditioning systems.
  2. Demonstrate proper understanding and use of an A/C manifold gauge set. Diagnose air conditioning malfunctions due to electrical or mechanical failure.
  3. Identify all of the major components used in an automotive air conditioning system and describe their function.
  4. Diagnose loss of refrigerant using a variety of leak detection methods.
  5. Demonstrate proper understanding and use of R-12, R134a, and R1234yf refrigerants.
  6. Properly service an air conditioning system including recovery, evacuation, recharging and required repairs.
  7. Understand proper A/C retrofitting procedures.
  8. Diagnose air conditioning malfunctions using pressure and temperature.
  9. PROGRAM OUTCOME: Demonstrate professional conduct as an individual and as a member of a team or group in a workplace environment.
