Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Actively engage in structured listening and speaking activities connected to content of ELA 018 including pair exercises, small group,and whole class exercises.
  2. Demonstrate listening comprehension by identifying main and providing evidence for choice.
  3. Demonstrate listening techniques by building on and referring to the comments others have made.
  4. Exhibit listening behaviors which include not interrupting, making eye contact, and avoiding personal cell phone use during discussion.
  5. Change volume of voice appropriately depending on context,e.g. personal interactions with classmates v. speaking to whole group.
