 Course Description  

Analyze the origins and development of law and its role in society as it relates to the healthcare environment. Survey legal rights and remedies, courts and court procedures, torts, contracts, and criminal law. Topics include contracts with equipment vendors, HIPAA and Stark laws, and insurance, working effectively with counsel and creating accurate documentation of situations. Focuses on the use of case studies for contextualization and application.

  1. Investigate the connections between the workplace and the American legal system, including its constitutional foundations, the function of federal and state law, government regulation, and structure by researching applications in healthcare fields of interest.
  2. Identify key principles and concepts around the governance of healthcare fields and the workplace including agency, property, contract, tort, privacy, and competition law by analyzing related impact on managerial philosophies and actions in healthcare fields.
  3. Formulate approaches to addressing the implications of bias in legal managerial healthcare decisions by using problem-based case studies.
  4. Investigate the legal and ethical implications of contemporary workplace public policy issues (for example, the environment, artificial intelligence, privacy) by analyzing their evolution and their impact on individual and organizational behavior in healthcare fields.
